Sonic is primarily a forage variety but is not limited to forage production. It is similar to Oberkulmer. It is approximately the same height as Obekulmer. It is a later maturity spelt with good standability. It has a improved disease resistance. The varieties of spelt we carry are normally fall planted in the Midwest.
Spelt
Spelt is a late maturing grain closely related to wheat. Harvest is later than wheat. For grain it is fully mature when heads “cane” and turn downward. When using for forage cut or graze at flag leaf stage. Leave 2-4 inches of residual. If planted in wet areas it will increase winterkill. Likes soil pH range -6.0 and above.
