Product Description

Stockmaster is a pasture seed mix, formulated with the top varieties for each region of the USA. These mixes with improved varieties allow for highly digestible, vigorous, and persistent pastures suited for all classes of livestock. Its complex formula allows it to be used even under less than ideal conditions. It is a perfect mixture for smaller acreage fields that require a long lasting, high quality pasture. Stockmaster, like Horsemaster stands, may also be used for hay fields after it is established.

Stockmaster is a dependable, multi-purpose forage mixture. Stockmaster provides a palatable, digestible forage mixture which is an ideal pasture mixture for cattle, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, and horses. Stockmaster is formulated with improved varieties of endophyte-free perennial ryegrass, tall fescue and orchardgrass. Perennial ryegrass establishes rapidly, performs well in a grazing situation, and is highly palatable and digestible. Improved varieties of tall fescue contribute persistence, winterhardiness, drought tolerance, and are an excellent source of digestible fiber. Orchardgrass is highly palatable and digestible and provides quality feed into the summer months. Stockmaster is also suited for high-moisture cutting and hay production.

Pasture Mixes

Using pasture mixes on your farm is a smart move. They’re versatile and more forgiving to adverse soil and climate conditions than monocultures. Mixes usually provide better nutrition and yield across the growing season. However, pastures need good management to be able to optimize the potential. Regular mowing and fertilizing are just as important as rotational grazing in maintaining a proper pasture balance.

Establishment

An early fall planting is best using a Brillion seeder or drilled 1/4 inch deep into a well prepared seed bed. If a Brillion seeder or drill is not available, the seed can be broadcast and rolled firm with a cultipacker. Make sure weeds are controlled before establishment. Spring planting is possible but competition must be suppressed. Most of the upper Midwest is Spring planted.

Management

Use the equivalent of about 40 pounds of N to kick-start the seedlings. Clip the pasture when the seedlings are about 6 to 8 inches high to encourage density. Do not graze until firmly rooted. Rotational grazing is best to promote persistence. Manure or fertilizer in the fall will help with winterhardiness.
